Drafting a 2012 Citizens Party Presidential Candidate

Citizens Party Members can draft candidates that they would like to see nominated as either the Citizens Party Presidential or VP candidate. In order for draft candidates to be considered in the Citizens Party nomination process, they must have a sponsor(s). Sponsors must submit the following information to the Citizens Party:

1.The first and last name of the candidate that the Citizens Party member wishes to draft.
    2. The state in which the draft candidate resides (if known by sponsor).
    3. A short statement should be included that declares (to the best of the sponsors knowledge) that the draft candidate is a legal U.S. Citizen, registered to vote and is eligable to run for President or Vice-President.

The sponsor(s) will be given time to submit paper petitions signed by 100 registered voters, from each of 5 states on behalf of the candidate. In addition, the draft candidate must also receive the on-line endorsement of 2,500 registered voters. This dual requirement translates into a grand total of 500 written signatures, plus 2,500 electronic messages of support.

Sponsors seeking to draft a candidate solely for our Vice-Presidential nomination must submit paper petitions signed by 20 registered voters, from each of 4 states on behalf of the candidate. In addition, the draft candidate must also receive 300 on-line endorsements. Thus dual requirement translates into a grand total of 80 written signatures, plus 300 electronic messages of support.

By having sponsors complete these steps on behalf of a candidate, it demonstrates to a candidate that they have some support within the party and it allows draft candidates the ability to seek our nomination at a late date. All other requirements for Citizens Party Presidential & Vice-Presidential candidates must be met by the draft candidate after they decide to seek our nomination.

We encourage sponsors to set-up a campaign draft committee for your favorite potential candidates and begin fundraising in order to make the most convincing case.
